Scope note: Células especializadas que detectan y transducen la luz. Según sea la estructura receptora de la luz, se clasifican en dos tipos: los fotorreceptores ciliares y los fotorreceptores rabdoméricos con MICROVELLOSIDADES. Las células fotorreceptoras ciliares utilizan OPSINA que activa una cascada de FOSFODIESTERASA. Las células fotorreceptoras rabdoméricas utilizan opsinas que activan una cascada de FOSFOLIPASA C.
